左岸P.S.

This is a great machine. The only flaw that I have found so far are the very poor sounding speakers. I have an iPhone and the speaker in my iPhone is far superior to the speakers in this netbook. Seriously, they are pretty bad. That said, I have yet to find a single other flaw with this machine. It is very solid and tight-fitting with no rattles at all.

The keyboard is remarkably generous, surprising me with it’s ease of typing because I have big hands. I use a Microsoft Natural all day long on my desktop but have no trouble making the transition to this netbook’s keyboard. The Control key is in the lower-left, right where it should be! Some laptop manufacturers put the Fn key there (ugh) and it completely screws up my touch-typing, so this is a big plus for me.

The touchpad takes a little getting used to, but maybe that’s just me because I’ve been a ThinkPad TrackPoint bigot for many years. The single button for the touchpad is no big deal, it’s actually two switches underneath for the left and right click. Once you get used to using it, the size of the touchpad isn’t a big deal. As with almost any input device, continued use will train your hands to do the right thing.

The screen is nice and bright, but be ready for the short height of this display. It will take some getting used to, and if you are using any apps that have a display area where the vertical height of any window or dialog exceeds 600 pixels then you WILL have issues here. It’s a good idea to adjust the resolution of your home machine to 800×600, replicating the vertical resolution of this netbook, and then test your “must have” applications to ensure you can run them without issues before buying this machine. Be sure to check the settings, configuration, etc. dialog boxes of your applications because if you can’t move the window up enough to click on Apply or OK then it’s going to be tough to work with those apps on a 1024×600 display.

Finally, the battery life is stupendous! I can easily get eight hours of low-power use on this machine, or use it here and there for a few DAYS without charging. I tell you, this is absolutely amazing. My previous machine was a desktop-replacement-class notebook that was very heavy and ate the battery in less than one hour. This netbook is very frugal with power and I can’t see myself ever going back to a more power-hungry notebook/laptop. This is nearly in the realm of mobile phone charge

I’ve been using Windows based computers for a little while now, and they’ve given me nothing but headaches. SO I decided that it was time to upgrade to something new and more reliable. I’m writing this review from the apple right now and I have to say I am enjoying it very much. It is definitely pretty to look at. I was at a coffee shop earlier and I got second glances from everyone. That aside, this thing seems to be pretty sturdy and powerful. It has had a couple of minor hiccups though…but what I like about it is that the hardware isn’t affected if there’s a glitch in the software. Overall, I’m very happy with this purchase.
